I keep reading this in snatches as I carry my copy in my book satchel. It’s getting better. For a long time it seemed that the narrator was showing off his knowledge of bureaucracy and technology. This book is a combination of another which I’ve already read. The narrator is a cynical, world-weary social servant whose field happens to be eldrych supernatural forces. Thus he has a laze-fair attitude about things which make the reader’s hair stand at end. The possession and death of Fred just described is an example of that.
