I'd like to register my contempt for certain theologically-illiterate and morally degenerate members of Congress who have invoked the Bible to justify US support for genocide in Gaza and a war of aggression against Iran. The definition of "Israel" as a state project is almost entirely foreign to the last 2000 years of Jewish tradition, to say nothing of Christianity, of which these people are hardly less ignorant.

Ian A sad sight. Though who do you mean in particular? I knew this was something in the abstract but I’d like to have names so I know who to disregard.

There are too many to give a comprehensive list, but my comment was mainly prompted by Ted Cruz's recent statement that we are "biblically commanded" to "support Israel." Even setting aside the absurd identification of the state founded in 1948 with either the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah or the concept of Israel in Jewish tradition (which, over the last two millennia, has typically been an identifier for the Jewish people, and certainly not for a modern ethnostate), the very idea that Christians, Jews, or anyone else would be commanded to "support" a particular country no matter what it does (God's "support" for the ancient Israelites, as presented in the Bible, is not even "unconditional"!) should ring false in the ears of any conscientious person.
