Just finished the first one: Bonjour tristesse / Hello sadness.
This strange woman just barges into the life of a 40-year-old man and his almost 18-year-old daughter. She immediately starts bossing them around, telling them how to live and what to think. Locking the girl in her room (!) so she will study! So I understand why the girl hated her and tried to get rid of her

The second novel: Un Certain Sourire / A Certain Smile
Dominique meets her boyfriend's uncle Luc and his wife Francoise, and immediately there's chemistry between them. Although she thinks she can handle the affair without emotions, she of course falls in love with Luc, which eventually leads to heartbreak.
But what doesn't make sense is that after everything is out in the open, she's still friends with Francoise.
