Okay, I’m getting the vibe that the barrier is not protecting them from the blight, but that the blight is actually the barrier siphoning energy from outside of the barrier. I know this is about imperialism, so that would make sense. They’re stealing energy from everywhere else, creating the conditions for refugees.
