I love how this series subvert the very colonialist notion repeated ad nauseam in literature in which the North is civilised whereas the South is barbaric. Here, the South is synonym with empathy, understanding, caring, freedom, gentleness, community. And the North is all the prudeness, hierarchical nonsense, omega oppression (aka patriarchy), cruelty, and general bullshit.
