And something I find interesting is how in this book you have Helen (and Jane) being taught religion and the Bible from a teacher like a Pharisee but somehow she still gets the right teachers from them. It reminds me of Yosouf from the chosen, he was a student learning from Pharisees but was able to recognize the heart of the teachings rather than their tone. Kinda of like Helen how she is able to help Jane in life

Ms temple is like the Ms honey for Matilda and lavender to Helen and Jane

Ch8 I like the words Helen’s speaking. Jane does value human opinion way too much. But I get it she was told her whole life she wasn’t good enough. Now she thinks that’s the highest value, being liked. Not even loved. Just liked.
I hope Helen’s words sit with Jane

Helen burns. Interesting. Her character. I think Jane will learn a lot from her. I have a feeling this book will not be kind to her so she’ll need someone like Helen, to keep her retaliatory heart at bay.
