I've heard the 1st book of this series isn't great, but the rest of the series is better. Is it because it takes until book 2 for there to be any romance? I understood this to be a bully romance. But 1 of the requirements of that is romance. I'm 1/2 done, don't know who the partners might be. It's just unrelenting humiliation and juvenile threat with no hint of eventual payoff. I am not enjoying it.
