Covering the most dangerous part of the ‘50’s, ‘60’s and ‘70’s to Hoover’s death, here we see the Bureau drift even further into the realm of the illegal, as Hoover, secure in his power until he starts to fade, becomes ever more convinced of the Communist menace and takes all steps to stop it. Funny how he didn’t have the same problem with the KKK or Fascists until ordered by the President, though

Moving into the segment of World War 2, it’s hard to believe I’m writing these words-but Hoover wasn’t necessarily wrong.

Oh he was an ambitious and paranoid bastard, a tight-assed prude with Puritan ideas and a megalomaniacal ego, and he violated the law regularly. But he wasn’t stupid, and he was a masterful infighter.

It’s funny-and by funny I mean horrible-how history repeats.

Deportation of anti-American foreigners based on fear? Check.

A government more focused on protecting their bosses and getting rich? Check.

The attitude of if you’re not with us, you’re against us, and violating the civil rights and liberties of the opposition? Check!

Sometimes I wonder if history doesn’t repeat so much as it never ends.
