When you only find happiness and peace after you’ve fixed every flaw, you have only reinforced the idea that you cannot be okay until everything is perfect. You change your life when you become comfortable being here, even if you want to move forward. Declare to the world that you will not only love yourself when it sees you worthy.

What really resonated with me in this past chapter was how to tell the difference between an intrusive thought and thought that comes from your intuition. Intrusive thoughts will derail your life and your intuition will guide you. Intrusive thoughts demand your attention and create panic and cause you to spiral, while your intuition is calm, rational, loving, and helps you solve problems and shows you how to respond.

Emotions are hardly ever an accurate measure of what you are capable in life. By using logic and vision to guide ourselves, we are able to identify a different and better life experience. When taking action, we will not feel happy initially no matter how right for us those actions are. You have to simply begin and allow your energy to reorient itself to prefer the behaviours that are going to move your life forward

Identify your core commitment by looking at the things you struggle with most. For example my core commitment is the urge to be considered “successful”. Your core commitments are a cover-up for your needs. For my example, my core need would be to improve my self-image to understand I am fully capable as I am now and to accept myself at my current status. The less you feed your core need, the more you cope.

Pg 38-39 - Healthy emotional processing looks like:
1: get clear on what happened(why you’re upset and why something bothers you so much)
2: validate your feelings (recognize anyone in your situation would feel similarly and what you feel is absolutely okay through journaling, crying, shaking, talking with a friend)
3. Determine course correction (how will you change behaviour/thought process for the future)
