I squelched all qualms that inevitably arise whenever I try to read contemporary literature - I’m a literary snob, I admit it - because English gardens, sweetly ironic love-laced mystery, and a fictional historic figure I actually had to Google because she was so compelling and I wanted to read more of her poetry sucked me in. A sweet, escapist little summer read.
