Gramsci is more concerned with the role of institutions in the proliferation of communism than articulating its principles. On Italian fascism, he seems almost confused by it, thinking it is a fluke movement of expedience with no ideological essence. He describes it in terms of economic strata; this is an incorrect assessment but one in line with the Marxist paradigm viewing history primarily as a class struggle.
