Atsushi reactions in "Portrait of A Father" are REALLY well done. The way the orphanage head is written is also SO GOOD. You can get the idea of him wanting to protect Atsushi, while also at the same time abusing him, and being aware of it. The orphanage head even looked fond in many of the panels he was in. This excuses nothing, but it gives us an insght into why he behaved as he did, and helps us understand him.
