Saukko writes in this chapter that the classical approach in studying lived resistance is informed by the ideas of “resistance.”However, the opinion states by Radways (1984) as cited in Saukko’s mentioning that in the end, resistance itself does not challenge the patriarchal structure in the society that interfere the human and family relation but may end up consolidating them is debatable (Saukko, 2003, p. 42).

what I can conclude from this chapter is that in reading ideology in cultural studies means reading a text with other different theories. It's important to be noted that one analyst will bring his or her own cultural baggage, i'e in Bond’s series, Eco analyses it from structuralism view through its semiotic because his background as a linguist, yet, it will be different when others analyse it from other perspectives.

Saukko in this chapter mentions that the term of new ethnography refers to all the social and cultural forms that are considered seriously by stating that before putting a label on an individual. The main importance of new ethnography is agreeable because the researcher likely focuses on the big group only and considered these small parts of their participants as a minority.

In combining methodologies, Saukko provides the historical background on the cultural studies issue that leads to a controversial debate between Freeman and Mead about the truth of Samoa. She doesn't point out the right one but she simply states that the greatest difference between the two scholars is the paradigmatic orientation. It is very agreeable because both scholars have done their research in different places
