This book is hanging on a thread. As much as I appreciate a person who can reflect on their issues and admit to their faults, half the book is the MC feeling bad for himself, missing the good old days, talking about how good at his job he used to be, and how much of a shitty person he is now. I’ve honestly skimmed past maybe 3 chapters worth bc of it.

So far I’m a little bored of the retired, refusing-to-accept-he’s-a-has-been, talking about his shit show of a life like it’s some screenplay. Listening to his long monologues reminds of a man who can’t accept that he’s not this great guy that he thinks he is or that he’s washed up. The mystery is interesting, curious even, if it wasn’t for the constant needing to stroke his ego.
