The ending confused me. I looked at a few reviews of the book and I figured it out. Isra grabs some money and picks the girls up from school and heads to the subway they are ready to get on and the book ends. I thought WTF just happened. Remember when Deya talked about the time her and her father and mother went to the park? That was the day. They also went on the subway. It clicked! I’m glad I figured it out.

Fareeda, Deya’s grandmother killed her twin girls because she was expected to have sons

Deya’s mother was beat to death by her husband and Deya’s father. After, her father killed himself. This information was in the newspaper and public knowledge yet Deya’s was sheltered so much she never saw it. I hate Deya’s grandmother. She is awful. All she cares about is her reputation. I wonder how she felt after the murder given her reputation. I wonder if this is the entire truth. There may be more
