“In the same way that we mourn the loss of species, and fear that reduced biodiversity could have catastrophic effects on the planet, so we should fear the loss of cultures, because the diversity of thought and language and opinion is what makes the world vibrant.” (112)

Oo this is a difficult read. So far, it’s written from a very pessimistic point of view, even though the pessimism is very logical.

Deep thought book, which I love. The beginning talks about vertical relationships and horizontal relationships being ways we relate or don’t relate to our parents. The author brings in his own experience of being gay as a horizontal relationship. I’m just now into the second chapter about deafness and Deaf culture
