I have some conflicting opinions on it so far because it has this highly modern and breezy/quippy style of writing I'm not fond of, but at the very least it's readable, and given this was billed to me as a "cozy" book, I suppose the lightness is part of why people want to read it. How it will deal with the inevitable tragedy of the story is what I'm most intrigued by given its current tone.

I just reached this point myself (in the story) but too early to tell. I agree with you for the writing style - I read the previous book by this author and didn't enjoy it much, for that and other reasons that somewhat arch back to that, but I like the premises of his books and decided to give this one another chance. We shall see if the author handles the darker parts more meaningfully than before!
