I first read it as a set novel for A level English almost 40 years ago and to be honest I did not enjoy it at all. I was hoping that returning to it now would give me more pleasure, but unfortunately this wasn't to be. I still cannot empathise with any of the characters, and no Heathcliff does not make me weak at the knees.
