i’m realizing that as we’re about to get another battle and (by my guess) the eunuch pilots will be glossed over again, that it feels like half of what is in this book is done for shock value. what is the point of the level of gruesome mutilation and murdering of people left and right, a CHILD doing some of the worst murders, and then amputating his finger??? this book is a mess. how is this YA

read a review about qin zheng & zetian being mentor/reluctant mentee and reading in that light i do see the appeal of their dynamic a lot more, i think i was just tainted by the coming storm of horrible horrible romance but i am Nawt looking forward to this relationship turning sexual eugh

FINALLY SOME GOOD FUCKING FOOD we got One good scene with yizhi and zetian

also the fact that the 2nd fox pilot (sorry the plot doesn’t care about him either so i forgot his name) became instantly irrelevant is crazy… did he live… did he have anything else to say… no we just don’t give a shit? ok

who even is this yizhi this is a completely different character than the first book ugh i hate tiktok dark boyfriend if he actually didn’t want zetian he wouldn’t care if they met in the tunnels i’m tired of the cuck chair i know i’m gonna hurl when zetian and the emperor get together yuck

halfway through and we’re FINALLY GETTING A MECH BATTLE!! i hope this guy doesn’t die because he’s interesting and could fuel the story more but something tells me he will just to add more bodies to the pyre
