Monique is definitely mixed with a white mom cause what are these comments???????? Everything she says about being black makes me squint my eyes and it HOOZES with the fact that the author is white with only a vague understanding of what being black/mixed entails. I don’t know if that was the point but as a result Monique just comes off self-hating and dare I say dealing with internalised racism lol

I’m not done but best to believe by the end I WILL be writing essays about how Celia was not the right partner for Evelyn, how she behaved exactly like those men she wants to keep Evelyn from, and how the BEST partner in Evelyn’s life was HARRY. Proving once again that platonic love is as valuable as romantic love!!!!!! Aaaaaaaah
