I like that the extraterrestrials at first appear friendly but later turn out to have their own agenda that does NOT conform to human moral categories at all - SOMEWHAT similar as what Octavia Butler went for in her "Lilith's Brood" trilogy but the colonialism allegory isn't a theme here at all (so far at least). Bears repeating "Zoi" has some of the most ALIEN extraterrestrials I have ever come across in SF.
