I can see the merits in this book, but the YA vibe is dialled up too high for this old man, so I'm going to put it aside.

She has Nigerian roots and borrows from Nigerian folklore yet has never been to Nigeria for any reason...not even during her "world" tours. So, YA aside, I decided to set all her books aside.
I had much the same feelings. However, my significant other purchased this book and gave it to me as a gift when I decided to get back into reading around a year and a half ago. I trudged through it for her sake and the book had some redeeming qualities here and there. If Tomi had dialed back the angst and worked a little more outside the common YA tropes it could have been really good. The bones were there and at times I was pretty intrigued, in the end the flaws outweighed the redeemers at least for this 37 year old reader.
