The Road tries to get by with no quotation marks. I think back to this class I took in undergrad about The New Testament, where a classmate asked if the original Koine Greek manuscripts really had no quotation marks or punctuation. The professor responded with "Yeah, it was like reading a Cormac McCarthy novel."
