this book is built up in four parts: Roots, Trunk, Crown and Seeds. The Roots part are eight chapters, in which eight people's lives are presented.
Note to self/you: you need to remember these people. The rest of the novel is about them. Obvious? yeah, sure... but I kind of started this and put it aside for a while, thinking it was all short stories. It isn't. Only the Roots part seems to be set up that way. Oopsie
