Thank you Hayley Lazo and Peter Ahlstrom and Isaac Stewart and everyone else, thank you CW and Gabriel and Catherine and all my other Smedry Sanderfan friends, thank you Tor Books, King's English, Tor.com...but thank you so much, Brandon Sanderson, for writing these books, for creating Alcatraz and his wonderful sense of humor and his darkness. He has genuinely changed my life.

How the cake does Brandon Sanderson manage to mess so effectively with expectations five books in a row...

Okay. I need to stop and process now. That was...the first word that came to mind was "amazing", but that's not quite it. The ending was right. It was what Alcatraz was building towards, the kind of thing I was expecting: failure, darkness. And yet there was a twist with the whole Bastille business - and that's also necessary for a true Alcatraz ending.

So my Not-Spoilers were right and there's going to be another book...but it'll be written by Bastille. I'm still a little bothered that Sanderson is going to drag this out more, but it makes it much better that Bastille will be the narrator. If he can pull it off and give her a distinct voice and tie up the magical stuff and, most importantly, bring closure to the themes of the series...this might work.

Bastille. This is definitely going to be interesting.

I love how the shipping hints get progressively more blatant in each book, but never actually come out and say what happened.

Yes, I need to know what happened to the Talents!! And what ARE the Talents? There are definitely questions unanswered here.

Is it bad that I wish Shasta and Attica could have gotten back together, even though it probably would have been a disaster?
