An example of how awful the writing in this boom is? On page 475: "The movie's climactic scene called for a massive SWAT team to take on 'Jake and Elwood Blues' in DALEY SQUARE, where the glass-walled lobby of the COOK COUNTY CENTER was to be rammed by the 'Bluesmobile.'"

This is the book I love to hate. There's such interesting information in here, but the gossip column, newsreel writing style is maddening. I've taken to skimming the book, at a moderate speed, to get to the end that much quicker.

There's a lot of information in this book, but I can hardly get past the fact it's written as if the author were a character on The Untouchables.
