First half: Was really into the book as I felt like the whole retelling of Mulan was super interesting with this powerful and dark twist. I was getting invested in some of the characters and some of the overall world building as they explained the reasons for the ongoing war.

Second half: I feel I’m less interested in the second half as it feels gaudy and strange. It feels like a dark romance that tries too hard.
