I was reading other things, and then this book set in Northern Michigan (where I currently am planted) practically hit me in the face. I love reading books set where I am, so I put the other books on hold and dove into this. It is a light read and a charming story. It needed a good editor. There are a bunch of places this gets mired in details that don't advance things, but I feel very forgiving.

If he mentions one more time that he is not attracted to Emily I am going to scream. This brings to mind Jonathan Tropper; not as well written but also not as saccharine. There was a random plotline with a guy trying to be the first to drive an electric car around Lake Michigan (how dated!) and it needed to be knitted in better or excised. The central story though, is charming, even if it needs a lot of work,

The writing here loosens up as it goes, which is a welcome change. I do wish the author had not repeated umpteen times that Mark does not find Emily physically appealing since it limits the direction of their relationship making it all seem false or any coming together some forced. I do like the subplot of Emily communing with Mark's dead aunt as she secretly reads her memoir.
