He goes into a bar in Paris at 13:30 hours, casing the joint and waiting around for a hood to show up for his nightly belote card game, very popular game in France, because no one knows how to find the hood during the day. Maigret ‘s in there 12-13 hours, drinking, and in their faces

This is the country cottage the Maigrets purchased on the banks of the Loire for their retirement, where they were actually installed and enjoyably living, until a bumbling nephew looked them up.
