"it was Sandy. This beautiful chick, who we had known only
as a cute little church mouse, suddenly appeared as the greaser’s dream. We stood there flabbergasted, completely at a loss for words. Sandy just stared back, cracking her gum, cooled out, calm, and collected."

"It had been a little more than a week since the race at Thunder Road, and
still Marsha, Sandy, and Rizzo hadn’t broken the ice. Me, Danny and
Kenick spent a lot of lonely nights together trying to talk each other into
going after them. But it struck me that as long as we had each other then we could wait it out."

Kenick was known to get sappy and sentimental when he was drunk. He
was an influence on all of us."

"Kenickie smiled and pinched her cheek. Marty was good people. Kenick
flipped the penny, but dropped it on its way down. As he bent over to pick it up, Doody came winging out of the car, smashing Kenickie in the head with the door. Kenick hit the ground like a stone and was out cold instantly."

"Me and Danny had kind of resolved ourselves to the fact that Sandy and
Marsha weren’t showing up at the race, and that was that. We hadn’t quite
admitted that they might not show up ever again, anywhere in our lives, but
that was starting to look like a possibility. When Danny put that to me, and
asked me what I thought, I told him, 'Hell, we’ll just have to chase them.'”

"Just then, Rizzo’s pink Stude came out of the tunnel. Kenickie lit up. He
watched her pull up. Jan, Marty, and Frenchy got out of the car, then Rizzo
drove away. Kenickie’s face dropped. He never said anything, but he didn’t
have to.
Jan, Frenchy and Marty watched Rizzo leave, then looked at each other in
surprise."

"The Scorpions had a tough-looking crew just hanging out across the track
staring us down. The chicks had close-cropped hair, and were swigging
whiskey and mugging smokes, and looking meaner than the guys. They
made the Pink Ladies really look like ladies."
