Tell the truth in your writing but don’t box yourself into writing what you “know”—the heart and the imagination also know! Plot suffocates. Just stick your characters in situations and let them figure their way out of it. Allow spontaneity.

1) Put your writing desk in the corner, not the middle of the room, because life isn’t a support-system for art. 2) The top level of your writer’s toolbox is vocabulary and grammar. Improve vocab by reading, but never seek to improve it on purpose. Use the first word that comes to mind. The road to hell is paved with adverbs. Read Strunk & White
