Duncan does an excellent job creating the ethos and mood of PTSD in a veteran and the effect on his wife. You can feel the change in her from the first book to this one. Even so, the story is as entertaining as the first one, so far. I like how Duncan includes dogs in both her Allcut and this series. Visualizing is easy, so easy, I forget to verbalize.

I’m giving 4 stars because it got a bit repetitious. Though Daisy’s stream of thoughts was natural and weirdly didn’t make me want to skip through rehashing of things she’d already said about herself or Billy, I found myself getting a tad impatient. Enjoyable escapism!

Small but irksome point. The story is set in 1920, but the characters talk about Agatha Christie’s books as if she’d already published at least one maybe more. But Christie didn’t have a book published until, well, 1920, not “a couple of years earlier.”
