A bit of convenient thing... that gem. It's like he came up with it right then and there, but didn't have the time to actually weave it better into the story, like he did with the thrill, for example.

But other than this, things weave together pretty nice. And it's interesting how Branderson chose to split the chapters in many short POVs. Gives the whole final battle scene, more tension, makes it more dynamic.
