I’m reading this because I want to be a well-read gentleman. This is one of the classics we didn’t read in school, and while I partially regret that, I know my teenage self couldn’t have appreciated this at all. Even now, I think already knowing the plot is helping me get through. I’m interested to see how the novel gets there in comparison with the movie, but I can’t say it induces much felicity.

Reading this in a manner reminiscent of the pace of life in that time. Elizabeth has now turned down two proposals from men of means. After D’Arcy’s long, long letter (not as long as Rachel’s on Friends) explaining his conduct, has her heart changed? Is it too late to win him back if so? Will she make him banana bread to renew the proposal?
