Ch. 4 is when this book pulled me in because of the political developments in the Korean Peninsula post-Japanese occupation but until then, I didn’t care for the descriptions of the main characters that make up the very racist and segregated south. Choi also uses “colored” and “colored people” and I don’t know if it’s her or the characters’ language/words. I was about to quit this book until ch. 4.
