Jo has decided to try to work with the girl who will now be named Ursa Major. Jo also has visitors from her university coming to visit and one of them is named Tanner. There is tension with Tanner due to a sexual relationship that ended abruptly. This is also the anniversary of the death of Jo's mother from I am assuming cancer.

The crew from Jo's university arrived early and now she must deal with how to explain Ursa and dealing with Tanner. Also Ursa saw a bird nest and young just recently born and she claimed that as the first miracle of five that she must see before returning home.

Book is great so far. Jo’s frustration with the alien is comedic and she is definitely struggling with this situation. She seems truly concerned about the possibility of this girl being homeless or abused.
