Thankfully I just found the author's historical notes at the end of the book.
Reading through these notes I'm in awe of the author's research for this book.
So many books about emotional/passionate/romantic male friendships in 18th century America and how their acceptance (and the meaning of terms like friend and lover) changed into the 20th century.

I need to bump this up my TBR. So many great books get buried and lost there. 😫
