I love the cover art so much! And I know I’ll be thinking about some of the stories for some time. I loved every second of this! And I absolutely cannot wait to read Children of the Sea!

The art is wonderful! I love Igarashi Daisuke’s art style so much. The way he draws the eyes is just chef’s kiss. The panelling work and rhythm of the scenes is so good. It is very cinematic. All the quiet scenes with animals and plants added so much atmosphere to the story, it’s masterful. 4.5/5 stars (rounded up to 5)

I wanted to read Children of the Sea first but since I was in the mood for something short I decided to read Witches instead. And I’m oh so glad that I did. I did not know what to expect going in and I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only the art is beautiful but the story is great too. I loved the concept of magic being so entwined with nature, and I loved the exploration of magic and its effects through

[Arc IV: Beach] I’m glad the Pishama the cat is back.

[Arc IV: Thief of Songs] I liked it but this could’ve been so much better. I love how fairytale-esque this story is. I loved the sea part in this story and I cannot possibly wait to read Children of the Sea.

The detail of the woman giving Mira her jacket is so good.

[Arc III: Petra Genitalix] I loved this one! It is possibly my favorite. Mira’s relationship with Alicia was wholesome.

[Arc II: Kuarupu and Bird-Riding Witch] I liked both of them but I like Kuarupu a bit more. And I found out that the title refers to Quarup or Kuarup, which is the principal funeral ritual of the Indigenous people of the Xingu region in Brazil. It was heartbreaking.

I love how weaving is, in a way, an instrument of magic here. It remind me of the Norns in Norse Mythology. I can’t stop thinking about the art, it is beautiful.

[Arc I: Spindle part I and II] I’m at awe. I liked this a lot. The art is gorgeous and the story was pretty good. I liked the subtle anti-colonialist theme interwoven into the story. There were certain scenes that were truly unsettling (i.e. Nicola with the heads) I do not know what I expected but it was not that, it’s great. I cannot wait to continue reading the rest of the stories!
