we always focus on the romantic aspect of this quote from catherine, but i feel like this also points exactly why they turned out to be so tragic and toxic for each other. because they're EXACTLY the SAME. both of them share equal principles and morality (or lack thereof). and thus, their love for each other became poisonous.

I love this take! I don’t know much about this other than that song from Kate Bush (lol), but I feel like I should give it a go! Hope you’re enjoying 🫶🏼
This is so true. People often forget that aside from the love story that discussion so often ends up revolving around, there is so much that the characters revealed of their mentalities through their actions, which were not altogether favourable lol. It's so amusing to think of how the author could have intended something completely different with a sentence and then it's taken completely out of context by readers. (That's not to say it's a bad thing of course, regardless of intent it's still a deeply compelling quote.)
This is such an interesting take 🤭 makes me want to read the book even more now
