Most of the stories, owing to their outdated writing style, are hard to enjoy, particularly the stories by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. Particularly the character dialogue that is written in phonetically spelled Victorian slang, which made it very difficult to read and understand as a modern reader. The spookiness has also been lacking so far.
