Amy Tan is a wonderful writer, but to be truthful, I’m finding this story really sad and somewhat depressing. It also reminds me of a book I read many years ago, also about a girl forced into prostitution and, in order to survive, she found a way to dissociate herself from her feelings and the life that she had to live.
