I've been reading a lot but not posting much here. Embarking on the final 20%, and still enjoying the ride. I'd post some quotes, but the whole thing is so quotable I couldn't possibly choose.

Taking this slowly (as it deserves) but I’m happy to confirm that almost a decade after my first go-round it’s still one of the best novels I’ve read.

"Why does everything you know, and everything you've learned, confirm you in what you believed before? Whereas is my case, what I grew up with, and what I thought I believed, is chipped away a little and a little, a fragment then a piece and then a piece more. With every month that passes, the corners are knocked off the certainties of this world: and the next world too."

"'And look, Gregory, it's all very well planning what you will do in six months, what you will do in a year, but it's no good at all if you don't have a plan for tomorrow.'"

Mantel's writing is enviable, and her treatment of 16th-century London is rich and vivid (if somewhat confusing at times, especially with all the Marys and Thomases running around). I just hope I don't get burned out before the end, since this is quite the tome. I think a mid-novel intermission (aka, another, shorter read before continuing to the end of this one) might be order soon.
