I still don't get it... I'm almost half-way through and debating DNF-ing it

The prose is dry and choppy. The are battles happening, yet the action is not shown, only talked about in retrospective and glossed over. I'm not even sure what this book is about and the characters... I keep imagining them as dwarves, for some reason?! Like, their names fit into that imaginary of Snow White's dwarves?!

I'll keep reading though, it's a different kind of prose and take on grim dark fantasy.
