The_Mad_Swede’s Reviews > Marvel Masterworks: Ka-Zar, Vol. 1 > Status Update

Read the original, slightly longer b/w version of “The Night of the Looter!” from Savage Tales #1, written by Stan Lee and drawn by John Buscema. It’s a good story, but (like the edited colour version) it is a bit odd as a Ka-Zar story, and the qualities of “Vibranium” do not really match any I have come across before.

Read Astonishing Tales #14, which is another filler issue, this time “an edited and partially redrawn color reprint of the Ka-Zar feature from Savage Tales #1,” the black and white original version of which is also included at the end of this volume.

Read Astonishing Tales #13, which wrapped up the two-parter involving Man-Thing.

Read Astonishing Tales #12, which involves the Man-Thing (and continues in the next issue).

Read Astonishing Tales #11, drawn by Gil Kane, and featuring the story of Ka-Zar and Zabu’s origin.

Read Astonishing Tales #10, which continued the story from #8. Art by Barry-Windsor Smith and Sal Buscema.

Read Astonishing Tales #9, which is a filler issue that is somewhat strange. While it has great art by John Buscema, the story itself almost reads like a mash-up between a Ka-Zar and a Conan story. It’s Ka-Zar in name (and somewhat in character), and Zabu is there, but the villagers in the story do not really look like Savage Land villagers connected to Ka-Zar, and the plot reminds me more of a Conan story.

Read Astonishing Tales #8 (two stories; one not about Ka-Zar).

Read Astonishing Tales #7.

Read Astonishing Tales #6.
