The book is small but heavy. For now it seems rather unbalanced towards the emotional, political and physical difficulties amidst a civil war, with barely any lightness to counteract it - leaving the reader needing to take a deep breath and giving themselves a pep talk on the merits of the book before picking it up again.

However the style of writing is eloquent and the depth of emotion is well communicated
