HFC ended up contributing to global warming by being used as an alternative to prevent ozone depletion. After the discontinuation of CFCs in 1996, smuggling from Russia started (they were granted until 2000 to stop production).

DuPont only admitted to defeat & discontinuing CFCs because it only made up 1-2% of their business and they could profit with alternatives over their competitors. They claimed scientists had cried wolf when it was them the whole time.
