I never saw Habibi as a commentary on the Middle East or Arab culture but as a commentary on our western view of the Middle East. With that said I find the whole orientalism criticism understandable but not very much convincing. Is it so difficult to see the change of tone in those exaggerated harem panels compared to those concerning Haddith or the Qur'an?
