A garbage chapter.

The author talks about how "noise" (in the media theory sense) is used to make you feel suspicious about people due to the news promoting useless information about them... and just... no, that is not the goal there. The goal is to distract from the useful information.

In what world would the example of "a politician is having a beer with his friend" cause you to feel suspicious of the politician?

As per the first chapter... this book is not that great. For a book that claims to be a guide on how to spot a fascist, it does a terrible job at teaching you; as it seemingly is confused on what a fascist is, itself!

From saying that fascists viewed the enlightenment as the birth of depravity, for some reason; to an unexplained contempt for intellectuals and their conflation with communists... nothing is explained.

Oliver He later tries to "prove" this confusing theory by using an example of how when watching an advertisement you only remember the sketch and not the product... in what world is that ever the case?

First, why would companies make advertisements at all if you won't remember the product?

Second, how is that at all true? There is not a single advert that I can think of where I only remember the sketch and not the product. Infact, the whole point of modern adverts is to hide how unremarkable a product is through theatre and music and leave you only remembering that the characters were so happy to get their new (carbon copy) iPhone(tm). They want you to not realise that you're being sold a product that is completely the same as any other, and also identical to the one you already have.

The author points out what I said later in the chapter! Contradicting his own words from just a few paragraphs back!! And not only that, he never ties this (wrong) theory of advertisements to fascism, but instead starts talking about how we should all strive to live with less noise around us... what the hell is he talking about?? This is a book about fascism!! Not your grudge against music in restaurants.

Oliver He also talks about how Romanians are encouraged to rape old women by the news saying that immigrants are doing it... This is a mess of a chapter, man, I am genuinely baffled as to what the fuck the point of these pages were.
