Sonnets LXXVIII-LXXXIV
This week’s standout is Sonnet LXXIX, which has a nice circularity in its logic.
“Yet what of thee thy poet doth invent / he robs thee of and pays it thee again. . . . Then thank him not for that which he doth say, / Since what he owes thee thou thyself dost pay.”
The rest follow the similar trend of his love being immortalized by his writing of her in verse.

This last batch feels reminiscent of many an angsty teen poem. Ah well, only one week left!

“The Phoenix & Turtle” was the last official non-sonnet poem in this novel. It’s short, dense, but interesting. Made even better by the fact it is so unlike everything else of his that I’ve read.

Sonnets CXXVII - CXXXIII.
Sonnet CXXX is the famous one out of this bunch, but it felt like awkward, cringe poetry that one friend we all had wrote when we were teenagers. That’s how several of this week’s batch read to me.

Sonnets CXX - CXXVI
With this week’s batch, we have concluded the love sonnets and will be moving onto the Dark Lady sonnets for these last 4 weeks. I’m definitely appreciative for a change in subject. As for this week’s batch, I’m going to have to re-read these. Shakespeare’s finally gotten out of his repetitive cycle, and these were actually more difficult than anything I’ve read in weeks.

Sonnets CXIII - CXIX
Of this batch, Sonnet CXVI is the standout for discussing love as a concept in a way that felt reminiscent of Act II of As You Like It.

Sonnets XCIX - CV
Back to the usual type of sonnets. I’ll give a shoutout to Sonnet CII for at least talking about a more mature, aged love, instead of all the love at first sight that comprises most of his sonnets’ theme.

This was a welcome change of pace. Sonnets XCIV & XCV both move away from love sonnets an offer some wisdom. The former about how not abusing one’s power is the best course of action, and the latter about how pretty privilege shouldn’t allow oneself to become a terrible person.
Also, Sonnets XCII & XCIII are nice companion sonnets, but love sonnets nonetheless.

Sonnets LXXXV - XCI
This week’s sonnets continue a theme of the writer being nothing without his love. To me, Sonnet LXXXVII does it best of the bunch. That said, it’s not really resonating with me. Shakespeare captures the storybook, fairytale type of love, but it rings as being one-sided and shallow. Where’s the writer’s self respect?
