Shadow in the Swamp, Brian Keene --a post-apocalyptic setting with a story that feels like a vignette between two others tales more than a story in its own right.

The 19th Legion, Josh Roberts -- "George R. Romero's answer to what really happened in the Teutoborg Forest". Definitely horror, arguably s&s though with a decidedly lackluster protagonist. God i hate present tense 3rd person narration.

The Seventh Queen by Heath Amodio: a dark play on the dragon and condemned princess trope, this is a decent dark fairytale but not even *remotely* sword & sorcery. The 1st person narration also doesn't read much like a woman's voice

The Red Rose Reign -- Glen Carrie
The story must win some sort of award for the most overwrought pretentious pros I've read in a long time, which is good because that's about the only thing it excels at.

The Atoll of Syrash by Wile E. Young.
An atmospheric pirate-necromancy tale set in 1695, though the world feels more a secondary world than ours. Moody, creepy grimdark tale where there are protagonists but no heroes. Light on action and more heavy on mood and plot, the sorcery is very well done.
